What is capital insurance?

Capital insurance covers you against death and disability due to an accident or illness in Switzerland. You, or if you die, your beneficiaries, which is generally your family, will receive the benefits. This means capital insurance is ideal for securing your family and providing them with financial support in a worst case scenario.

When does capital insurance pay out?

Capital insurance pays out in the following cases:

On death due to accident or illness

When the insured dies due to an accident or illness, the beneficiaries will receive the agreed lump-sum death benefit. The beneficiaries are the people who are eligible to claim the benefits based on a contract or the order of succession of the insured. Insureds have the option of changing the beneficiaries listed in the order of succession. These beneficiaries will then receive the sum insured on the insured’s death.

On disability due to accident or illness

If the insured becomes disabled due to an accident or illness, the lump sum will be paid out based on the level of disability. Only the insured is entitled to the disability lump sum. The amount paid out depends on the extent of the disability. You can find more detailed information in the Supplementary Insurance Conditions. The lump sum will be paid out all at once. If the disability level changes due to an insured accident after the disability lump sum has been paid out, the benefit will be modified to reflect the new disability level. This ensures that if the insured’s health deteriorates, more benefits will be provided in order to cover the changing need.

Being unable to work is on its own not an insured claim for benefits from capital insurance. This means that the insurance does not step in if the incapacity to work is temporary or permanent due to an illness or accident. It only covers cases of disability or death due to an accident or illness.

FAQ about capital insurance

How does capital insurance contribute to my pension provision?

Although AXA capital insurance is not a traditional life insurance policy with a savings component, it does offer financial security in an emergency. In contrast to other pension provision products, it primarily serves to mitigate risk rather than build up savings over the long-term. It supplements traditional pension provision, such as a Pillar 3 private pension by offering additional protection on disability or death.

Is capital insurance right for you?

Capital insurance from AXA is a good idea if you want a targeted solution to secure you and your family from the financial consequences of an accident and/or illness – especially if you’ll receive few or no benefits from social insurance.

Capital insurance is a wise choice for:

  • Families who want to avoid the financial difficulties that arise for survivors after a death
  • The self-employed who want to protect themselves from loss of income due to disability and financially protect their family if they die
  • Children and young people – to protect them early on from death or disability
  • Students – to protect them from serious incidents if they are lacking insurance from an employer
  • People without employment (e.g. housewives or househusbands) who want to close gaps in pension provision
  • Employees who want to close existing gaps in their cover and improve their financial security.

Thanks to its flexibility, the CAPITAL insurance from AXA is the ideal solution for everyone who wants a customizable solution to insure themselves against death and/or disability.

What’s the difference between term life insurance and capital insurance?

Term life insurance only insures the death of the insured person and pays out an agreed amount to beneficiaries. Capital insurance can combine term life insurance with disability benefits that are paid out in severe disability cases due to accident or illness.
