Unpaid invoices and demands for payment – this is what you need to do

You've received a payment request or demand for payment from AXA and would like to apply for a payment deferral or payment in installments. What’s the best way to proceed? What are the consequences and costs for you? You can find answers to these and other questions on this page.

Apply for a payment deferral or for payment in installments

Life doesn't always go to plan: a payment deferral gives you more time to settle your invoice. However, applying for a payment deferral or payment in installments involves extra costs.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Do you already have a login to the myAXA customer portal? Then you can apply for a payment deferral or for payment in installments online quickly and easily.
  • If you don't have a login to the myAXA customer portal, you can apply for a payment deferral or for payment in installments using the forms below.

Revocation of license plates for your motor vehicle

If you haven't paid the compulsory liability insurance for your motor vehicle despite a demand for payment, you'll lose insurance cover. A message will then be sent to the road traffic office. The office will require you to surrender your vehicle registration document and license plates (this is required by law). Given this status, you as a customer will no longer be allowed to drive the vehicle to which the license plates are registered. You could also be charged several hundred francs by the relevant canton's road traffic office if your license plates are revoked.

Here's how to reinstate your insurance coverage:

  • Settle outstanding premiums and reminder fees in full. The myAXA customer portal shows you the outstanding amount and enables you to pay directly online.
  • Your insurance cover (insurance certificate) will be activated within 24 hours of receipt of payment. If you need your insurance cover sooner, please contact your insurance advisor directly. You will find contact details in the myAXA customer portal.
  • As soon as insurance cover is reactivated, the insurance certificate will be automatically sent to the relevant road traffic office. You can then immediately use your vehicle again with the registered license plates. If the road traffic office has confiscated your license plates in the meantime, you will have to reregister them there.

Frequently asked questions about your invoice

  • What happens if I can't pay an invoice or pay it on time?

If you can't pay an invoice or pay it on time, cover may be suspended. This happens the day after the reminder date has passed.

Example: you've received a demand for payment from us with a note to pay by March 31. If you don't pay the invoice by the given date, your insurance cover will be suspended from April 1.

To ensure that this doesn't happen to you, we recommend that you apply for a payment deferral or payment in installments in the myAXA customer portal.

  • When does debt enforcement start?

If invoices remain unpaid despite a reminder and demand for payment, AXA retains the right to apply to the relevant enforcement office for debt enforcement on the outstanding amount.

  • What should I do if it comes to debt enforcement?

You should contact the debt enforcement office in your place of residence to settle the outstanding invoice in full.
