While you only need running clothes and a pair of shoes to jog, other types of sports require expensive equipment. What would a cyclist be without a bike, a snowboarder without a board, and a golfer without clubs and a caddy? If your skis aren’t where you left them at the restaurant after lunch or the frame of your racing bike is damaged after a fall, it is twice as frustrating: Firstly, because of the risk of an involuntary break from sports, but also because you have to replace the expensive equipment.
Household contents insurance protects all your household contents against theft and damage from fire, water, and natural forces. This includes your new e-bike, golf equipment, or other sports equipment belonging to your family or household. The problem: Most sports accidents or thefts don’t happen at home, but rather when your are on the go or on vacation. That’s why it is a good idea to expand your insurance to cover expensive equipment.
With our insurance for sports equipment and bicycles, you can also cover loss, damage caused by yourself or a third party, and “theft away from home.” This way, you can enjoy surfing in Portugal or cycling in Liguria without worrying about your equipment.
You will find GICs for policies taken out before October 2021 in your myAXA client portal.
Whether your are doing your favorite sport or on the way to your vacation with all your own equipment – our sports equipment and bicycle insurance covers the financial consequences of damage, theft, or loss of e-bikes & co. Including the equipment of everyone in your household.
Our sports equipment insurance covers all bicycles and sports equipment in your household: Your own and that of your partner, children, or other family members and roommates. Among other things, the insurance covers:
Athletic apparel such as ski clothing, cycling clothing, or sports shoes are not covered by the insurance. Devices used to measure performance are also not included in the insurance.
Sports equipment, especially for cycling, water sports, or winter sports, can really entail a financial investment. As soon as you or someone else in your household owns an expensive bike, a pair of the latest downhill skis, or a brand-new wakeboard, the insurance can quickly become worthwhile.

On her first trip on her new e-bike, Johanna underestimates her speed: She falls while crossing an intersection, and the expensive bike is badly damaged.
The insurance is primarily designed to protect your own possessions that you use and have spent so much on. However, if you should rent equipment as well, then you can do so without worry: AXA provides comprehensive protection – even for bikes and other sports equipment such as skis or scooters rented or leased by the insured person.
Yes, that is possible. If you combine the policy with household contents insurance (basic coverage), you will also benefit from a reduced premium on sports equipment insurance.
The fixed contractual term is at least one year.
No. While many insurers restrict their insurance coverage for sports equipment and bicycles to Switzerland and Liechtenstein or Europe, AXA also offers worldwide coverage.
Your e-bike insurance presumably only covers damage to your e-bike. AXA does not have a specific solution for e-bikes, but rather we insure all types of bicycles (up to a maximum categorization as a moped) and sports equipment of your household – against theft, loss, and sudden damage. From just CHF 60 per year.
AXA does not cover wear and tear or age-related damage to your bikes and sports equipment. The benefits for sports equipment and bicycle insurance only cover unforeseen, sudden damage, for example from an accident.
You can set this yourself when you take out the insurance (online or with an AXA advisor). It ranges from CHF 1,000 to CHF 30,000, depending on the value of your equipment. Of course, the higher the insured amount to be paid out in the event of a claim, the higher your premium will be. This is also influenced by your deductible. A lower deductible increases your annual premium.
Yes. The sports equipment insurance also covers damage incurred during an insured event to other equipment used for the sport in question, like helmets. By contrast, the insurance does not cover clothing – for example, if your tear your ski clothing in an accident.
No. We automatically insure all new purchases (sports equipment and bikes of all manufacturers) for all persons listed in the policy. However, it probably is worthwhile to adjust the insurance sum upward if the value of your new bike significantly exceeds the original sum.
Bicycle and e-bike assistance for your own bike is part of the supplementary insurance and services you can also include in your coverage if needed.
No, the insurance for your bike and other sports equipment can also be taken out independently of your household contents insurance.
