At AXA, we offer two different types of computer science apprenticeship, each with a different focus: Computer scientist specializing in application development and computer scientist specializing in business IT  –  this training is only available in Winterthur.

The computer science apprenticeship specializing in application development lasts four years and starts every August.

What you learn during a computer science apprenticeship specializing in application development at AXA

As a computer scientist specializing in application development, you create web applications and develop software solutions.

The training program is offered in part at the vocational college BBW in Winterthur and in part at AXA itself. During the first 15 months of your training, AXA's in-house apprentice school (LGS) prepares you for practical work in the company. Key focal points include team development, learning techniques, IT basics, website development, fundamentals of methodical programming, and insurance basics. Training also covers the programming languages PL/I and Java, methodical testing, and relational databases (DB/2, SQL).

Following the apprentice school, you move to the practical phase. You will start applying your expertise by programming mainframes. After this, you will work in the object-oriented area, using Java, SAP (ABAP) or C#. For your individual project work, you can choose between mainframe programming and object-oriented programming.

  • Good grades in Secondary School A or an equivalent institution
  • Major interest in new technologies
  • Team skills
  • Very good ability to think logically and abstractly
  • Quick grasp of new concepts
  • Pleasure in working in a precise way

The computer science apprenticeship specializing in business IT lasts four years and starts every August.

What you learn during a computer science apprenticeship specializing in business IT at AXA

As a computer scientist specializing in business IT, you set up equipment, test new versions of software, offer support, and look after business security.

The training program is offered in part at the vocational college TBZ in Zurich and in part at AXA itself. During the first year of your training, AXA's in-house apprentice school (LGS) prepares you for practical work in the company together with the application developers. Key focal points include team development, learning techniques, IT basics, website development, fundamentals of methodical programming, and insurance basics. You also learn the programming language PL/I.

Following the apprentice school, you move to the practical phase, in which you carry out independent tasks. The area you work in depends on our operating needs and your capabilities.
